It is a process that takes time.
Time for prayer, study and reflection.
The RCIA process follows this timeline:
The Precatechumenate is approximately 6-8 weeks in duration. It is a time of building community, answering questions and discovering the Good News of Jesus.
The Catechumenate is a 10-12 week period of study. The candidates learn the teachings of the Catholic Church and how to imitate Christ in their lives through words and deeds.
Enlightenment & Illumination coincides with the Season of Lent (6 weeks) and is the immediate spiritual preparation for celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation.
Mystagogy is the final period in the RCIA and lasts until the Feast of Pentecost (7 weeks). The focus is to join the community for worship and deepen ones understanding of the Risen Christ as full members in the Body of Christ.
Candidates in the RCIA process commit to weekly sessions held on Tuesday evenings for approximately 30 weeks in September through May. The weekly RCIA sessions are filled with learning, spiritual formation, and new Church friends. Every candidate has a parish companion who also attends the sessions. Please do not hesitate to contact Susan Bellotti, Pastoral Associate, at either 614-882-2109 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or to schedule your initial interview.
As Church, we make a promise to accompany each person who makes the journey to become Catholic.
