Cantors are trained singers who support the congregation’s sung-prayer in the absence of a choir. The ability to read music is very desirable since there is no formal rehearsal with the organist. Although the Cantor does meet with the organist 30 minutes prior to Mass, this rehearsal is used simply to establish introductions and tempi. As such, prospective Cantors need to be able to learn and prepare music on their own.

By way of an audition, this ministry is open to parishioners 18 years of age or older. A Cantor should possess a pleasant voice, sing in tune, and articulate text clearly.  Just as important, Cantors should also possess a friendly personality to aid in engaging the assembly in active participation. Interested parishioners should contact John Bryan at 614.794.7303.
